Helmsman Course

What is it?

Helmsman/Mate Domestic < 500 GRT is a program approved by Malaysia Marine Department. During course, participants will be taught about navigation, rules of the road and other subject so they will be competent to drive and navigate boat or vessel for near coastal voyage. After completing the course, participants will take an oral exam with Malaysia Marine Department. If they pass the exam, they will be accredited by Malaysia Marine Department as a person that is competent to handle and navigate boat or vessel for near coastal voyage.

Entry Requirements

18 years of age and above

Medically fit

Oral Exam Requirement

Posses BST and Seaman Card (chip) from Malaysia Marine Department.

Sailing experience on any vessel including fishing vessel, tourist boat, recreation boat subject to obtaining letter of confirmation or commissioner of oath.

Course Duration

Ten (10) working days.
